Visual and contemporary artist Jekein Lato-Unah
Jekein Lato-Unah, first of her name, is a Nigerian visual and contemporary artist born in Lagos, Nigeria and hails from Delta state. Bagging certificates in art, she is an outspoken, impressionist painter moving towards araism and expressionism, her pieces express the current state of her environment with bold and engaging patterns. She is a full time fourth year law student at the University of Lagos of which she won the award in her faculty for Outstanding Contribution to Arts and Culture. She is known for her use of oil and acrylic to depict life size paintings. She is also known to be the first woman to have mastered the Araism movement with a style that stands out. Her most recent body of work title “Displacement” which focuses on the hardships the less privileged face everyday in the Nigerian State, was recently featured at the Ake Festival held at the Cultural Centre in Abeokuta. Jekein’s works can be found in private collections within and outside Nigeria as she has also participated in several notable exhibitions in Nigeria.
